Celebrate Women’s Equality Day
When something has been around all our lives it’s easy to forget the reality of the past. In the U.S. the 19th Amendment to the Constitution giving women the right to vote was only passed in 1920. That’s right, only a hundred years ago. There are still a few people alive who lived before the amendment was passed.
August 26th, Women’s Equality Day is both a joyous and solemn day. Joyous because the voting franchise was passed on to women, solemn because the struggle to get there lasted for thousands and thousands of years, and for many that struggle for equality continues today.
For businesses that have ignored or not payed attention to Women’s Equality Day in the past it’s an opportunity to recognize the importance of equality. It’s not too late for those who’ve ignored this subject.
It’s a good day for contemplation about how you view women in today’s society and how you view them in relationship to your business, if bias lingers for whatever reason it’s the perfect time to start moving out of those ancient judgements and assumptions. Clean out the cobwebs and move into a 21st century attitude of equality.
