There is no doubt that someone now lost to the dusty pages of history was the first to put cheese on a hamburger resulting in the first Cheeseburger.
Who did it and when they did it is not known, though some stories say it was in Chicago in the 1920’s and the name “cheeseburger” was awarded a trademark in 1935 to Louis Ballast of the Humpty Dumpty Drive-in located in Denver Colorado. All that really matters is that we are the beneficiaries and get to celebrate National Cheeseburger Day everyday if have a mind to.
One of John Belushi’s most famous skits on SNL was The Olympia Restaurant where he’d shout out the order “cheeseburger cheeseburger cheeseburger.” Watch an episode on the web or all the episodes on Hulu. Cheeseburger
National Cheeseburger Day is the perfect time to host an outdoor BBQ for your customers, maybe call it Customer Appreciation Day. Alternatively you can make a deal with a burger joint where you give out 50% off cheeseburger coupons and they agree to give out a coupon to your business at a later date. This could be the start of a series of joint advertising ventures with other local businesses, who knows?
One of the great thing about tagging onto a national day such as National Cheeseburger Day is that people already know about many of the days and love to join in the celebration with local merchants. The more outlandish you can be in your public advertising-celebration the more people will visit and renumber who you are and what you sell.
Create your marketing campaign around a national or international day and launch it at least 10 days prior to the targeted day. Make it a big deal with radio, podcast and maybe newspaper interviews or local flavor pieces.
Besides giving away the usual hats, t-shirts and stickers remember to create a campaign for social media. Getting onto Instagram and YouTube a couple of weeks before the big day will stir-up the excitement. Don’t forget to have someone doing live photos and video before, during and after the day’s event, all the media you gather will also be a great resource for next year’s series of events.
